ESL 502 is a non-credit high-beginning level ESL course designed to improve students' listening, speaking, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary skills. This course is designed for the older adult to re-discover the benefits of physical activity participation in a wilderness environment. The course will introduce and develop age-appropriate skills in one or more of the following adventure based activities: hiking, biking, paddle sports (kayaking, paddle board, and/or canoeing), rock climbing, technical and non-technical canyoneering, cross-country skiing and/or snow-shoeing. All necessary equipment will be provided. The course will take place off-campus and in a wilderness environment.

Note: This hybrid class is a combination of unscheduled online learning (in Canvas) and scheduled in-person, off-campus class meetings on days and times noted above. Students are required to attend scheduled off-campus class meetings. FIELD EXPERIENCE at the following locations: Saturday, Sept. 24 at Mission Peak from 8am-3:50pm; Saturday, Oct. 1 at Fall Creek from 8am-3:50pm; Thursday thru Sunday, Oct. 13-16 at Desolation Wilderness Lake Tahoe from 8am-5:50pm; Saturday, Oct. 29 at Maple Falls from 8am-3:50pm; Saturday, Nov. 5 at Castle Rock from 8am-3:50pm. Adventure Based Outdoor is a physical activity course with off campus meetings. Activities will include camping. All camping equipment and meals are to be provided by the students. Students must be able to provide or arrange for their own transportation if school vans are not available. The student is responsible to pay park entrance/camping fees when required.
