This is an introductory science course for non-science majors covering topics of modern Astronomy. It highlights pivotal aspects in the history of Astronomy such as its distinction and further separation from Astrology. It lists the physical processes governing the origins of a star system and indicates the causes of the apparent motion of sky objects and cyclic sky events. The sources of periodical astronomical events such as phases of the moon, solar and lunar eclipses, meteor showers, and seasons are identified and related via the fundamental laws of physics. The astronomical tools of photometry and spectroscopy are introduced for their indispensable role in analysis towards the detection of planets around other stars, the investigation of dark matter and dark energy, and the ongoing search for extraterrestrial life. Additional topics include the origins of galaxies, large scale structure, and a full description of the Big Bang theory.

This is an advanced automotive electrical course stressing diagram-based diagnostic methods. Students will design and build functioning circuits and systems, as well as compute and measure all aspects of performance. Students will learn to diagnose and repair a wide variety of circuit, system, and component faults in general electrical, starting, charging, lighting, instrumentation, accessory, climate control, audio, navigation, and SRS systems. Analytical skills and use of specialized test equipment will be stressed to provide students with excellent and highly marketable diagnostic abilities.

This course introduces students to selected desert ecosystems of the Mojave Desert and to Death Valley National Park, the largest national park in the lower forty-eight states. This course takes students from mountain peaks and passes to the lowest point in North America, to dune fields and waterfalls, and to canyons and ghost towns. General ecological and geological principles, and the flora, fauna, and human histories of the areas visited are emphasized. The course entails on-campus lectures and the equivalent of one week in the field. Course participation requires camping, hiking, and automobile travel. Additional fees are required.

It examines the market system as a means of solving the problems in the production and distribution of goods and services in a society. It explores some of the more urgent micro-economic problems such as monopoly power of big business and big unions, government regulations and consumer protection, the energy crisis, taxes and welfare.

The course will survey material properties, processes, and applications used in the manufacturing industry. The course emphasizes job related skills required by manufacturing industries. Topics will include a brief introduction to the properties of metals, polymers, ceramics, bonding material, and composites. Students will be introduced to common manufacturing standards and processes for testing and applying materials. Students will practice various bonding and assembly techniques using recommended procedures, as well as standard materials characterization techniques. Some labs will be held at different industry sites based on the skill being learned. Field trips will be required.
